Gretchen Bello Carvajal is a First Generation Filipina Immigrant raised in the wondrous place that is the Bay Area. She is a writer, artist, emcee, performer, and scholar at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she is currently studying Art under the First Wave Hip-Hop and Urban Arts Learning community. Gretchen is an old woman trapped in a 20 year old’s body who obviously loves being Asian-American and loves hip-hop. She is an avid listener of Kanye West, Camp Lo, Corinne Bailey Rae, D’Angelo, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, and Bobby Caldwell. She is a critical activist, but a believer that all people should love unapologetically. She supports selfies as a person’s right to love themselves. She loves her family and will never stop writing about Asian Americans, Filipin@s, and intersectionality.
